Tell Hershey and Mars: There is nothing sweet about GMOs!
There is arguably no more important time for chocolate sales than the week leading up to Valentine’s Day or Halloween, especially for Hershey and Mars. Together these companies make up 70% of the US chocolate markets and spent $1.1 million to defeat Prop 37 in California. Their shared love affair with GMO ingredients is no secret.

So this is old news you see… since the purchase took place last week for $820 million. However, a lot of folks have no idea yet about our beloved Annies. In our house Annies Mac and Cheese has been a favorite quick meal for the kiddos. Back in 2009 we even dedicated a post to Annies mac and cheese.
Annie’s Chief Executive Officer John Foraker said yesterday that the General Mills takeover will help boost distribution of the company’s products while preserving its mission.
“Annie’s has proven you can indeed do well by doing good,” he said in a note to employees. “These values and the magic of the Annie’s brand are key elements of our success -– and something General Mills admires.”
“These are very talented people and they’ve built a really good brand. The key for us is figuring out which capabilities we have to help them,” said General Mills CEO Ken Powell.
Let’s hope this is true and let’s hope GMO giant General Mills will keep Annie’s products just the way they are and the reason weall love their products.
With social media people have taken to Facebook to let Annie’s know they are unhappy with the news of this sell out.
“You sold the “soul”of the business. The foundation (soul) that many of us bought into originally.”
“Very disappointed to hear this. Will never purchase Annie’s again.”
“To buy Annie’s now is to ultimately put dollars into General Mills’ fat pockets. I will miss you, white cheddar shells.”
“Sadly, you are missing the bigger picture. We purchased your products as a way to show the world we were anti-GMO. To keep our dollars out of their pockets. Being owned by a company that supports GMO agriculture and is against GMO labeling means we can not, and will not buy your products. Even if you want to stay true to your mission, you no longer have that control. You gave that up, along with your consumers that chose you over General Mills.”
“For our family purchasing Annie’s was a way to vote with our dollar. We were able to support a quality business and provide quality food to our family. Now if I were to purchase an Annie’s product I would be supporting General Mills, which would be against everything that I believe in. You sold out and you cannot spin this away.”
“Oh Annie’s… I’m saddened by the news that you have been acquired by General Mills. I refuse to spend my money on a company that lobbies for and supports non-GMO labeling and Monsanto. I am very sorry the money was more important than your principles. Regardless of whether you change your recipes, or stay organic, General Mills does not deserve my family’s funding, and by default, neither do you.”
Many people are upset and worried not only about the food changing but about what it stands for. Here at HealthJunk.com we try very hard to buy and eat non-GMO foods and support non-GMO companies and their non-GMO products. So with all this we understand how these folks feel and we are disappointed that once again it seems to be all about the money and less about our health. We will be standing by waiting and hoping the Annies products stay the same…but it still doesn’t help the fact that they are now owned by a GMO giant who sells GMO foods and fights against them stopping the labeling of GMO foods.
Take Action: http://bit.ly/NoGMOsCheerios Join GMO Inside in asking General Mills to be a leader and remove GMOs from Cheerios and to stop blocking our right to know. Send a letter to CEO Kendall Powell now! http://bit.ly/NoGMOsCheerios

While concealing its use of GMOs in the United States and Canada, General Mills offers non-GMO Cheerios to consumers in Europe. Most industrialized countries have required GMO labeling for years. In Europe, General Mills manufactures Cheerios without GMOs, or if it sells Cheerios in Europe that are manufactured in North America, the product is labeled as “likely containing GMOs.”
Adding insult to injury, General Mills spent $1.1 million to oppose GMO labeling legislation in CA, thus perpetuating consumer deception. In Washington State, General Mills is likely covertly funding the campaign opposing labeling initiative 522 through the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA). General Mills’ CEO Ken Powell is the vice chair of the GMA, which to date has given $7.2 million to fight I-522.

Urge Trader Joe’s to sell only meat raised without antibiotics
A shocking 80% of antibiotics sold in the U.S. are used not by humans, but by the meat and poultry industries, making factory farm animals grow fatter faster and enabling them to survive crowded and unsanitary conditions. The facilities and feedlots where these cows, chickens, and pigs live are teeming with antibiotic-resistant bacteria that make their way into the air, the water, soil, your food, and you.
Unfortunately, the Food and Drug Administration has done little to protect us, so now it’s time for consumers to act. That’s why the Center for Food Safety is supporting the Meat Without Drugs campaign, and we’re starting where we can have the most impact – our neighborhood supermarkets.
Join us in urging Trader Joe’s to lead the way in getting antibiotics out of our food chain by selling only meat raised without antibiotics!

Over a hundred million additional pounds of toxic pesticides associated with cancers and birth defects are coming to a field near you. UNLESS YOU STOP IT!

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is on the cusp of approval, even though they acknowledge the use of this toxic pesticide will skyrocket.
