This one was made and packaged with love for my Grandmother who has High Blood Pressure.

She doesn’t get out shopping much and even with grocery shopping it can be hard, she’s older and she’s stuck in her old ways. She doesn’t realize that organic is better…well because in her time they didn’t have such a thing as going to the local market and it having a “organic section” because it was all organic then, right? I didn’t buy all organic and I don’t even know if this was all GMO free but my goal here was to find items that I knew she could find where she lives and at stores she can easily access since her trips to the store are limited.

Now a study has found that in fact music can strengthen the heart – and improve the recovery of patients suffering from heart disease.
Cardiologists said the findings suggested that all people could boost the health of their hearts simply by listening to their favourite tunes.
Patients with cardiac disease were divided into three groups. Some were enrolled in exercise classes for three weeks.
Others were put in the same classes, but also told to listen to music of their choice at any point for 30 minutes every day. A third group only listened to music, and did not take cardio-vascular exercise, which is usually prescribed to those with heart disease.
At the end of the trial, the patients who had listened to music as well as exercising had boosted crucial measures of heart function significantly, and improved their exercise capacity by 39 per cent. More here.

For most of us, there has been many times we have been out enjoying the warmer weather and have been exposed to too much sun.  Whether it be a day out on the beach or a day at the park, there are times when it seems difficult to avoid the inevitable sunburn.

It works by balancing your skins acid and alkalinity levels, which helps with the healing process.  Its strange to think that this common kitchen ingredient would be so effective, but its true.  Not only having healing powers for sunburn, vinegar can also be an effective way to cure acne.  Diluting the vinegar with water an applying it to your face will keep excess oils at bay.

Strange? Yes.  Effective? Definitely.  Next time your in pain and have reddened skin from the sun, take a trip to your kith and see for yourself.  You will not be disappointed.

3 Easy Ways To Get Rid of Mosquito’s

Mosquito’s can be quit a nuisance most times. Not only are they irritating to deal with but can be potentially harmful.  Because they feed on blood, some can transmit potentially deadly diseases such as malaria, yellow fever, and filariasis.  Here are a few ways to deter mosquitoes without harming your health or the environment.

1) Garlic

Garlic not only have many health benefits that boosts your immune system, but has also shown to repel mosquitoes.  By simply pressing some garlic and mix its juices with water, then add to a spray bottle. It’s safe on skin as well as plants, and good at keeping mosquitos away.

Others have found that even just eating it, despite the fact that consuming garlic cloves on a regular basis may not be preferred or practical, it has shown promise to keep those pesty cridders awaynomos

2) Mosquito-repelling plants and herbs

Marigolds, lemon thyme, basil and catnip are top plants and herbs known to deter mosquitoes. Iowa State University researchers discovered that catnip, for example, not only keeps mosquitoes away but cockroaches too. They also determined that the essential oil responsible for catnip’s smell is about 10 times more effective than harsh sprays specifically designed to distance mosquitoes.

3) Buy a bat house

Bat cave anyone? Despite all the scary movies you have seen, bats don’t attack humans, but they do feed on insects like mosquitoes. In fact, one single bat can eat up to 1,200 mosquito-sized insects hourly, and each bat typically consumes up to 8,000 insects every night. Hanging a bat house can help reduce the presence of mosquitoes in social areas.

Natural Remedies For Tinnitus

So what is tinnitus you ask?  Do you ever have a ringing in your ears but when there is complete silence?  Or when your trying to concentrate but cant get that high pitch sound to go away that nobody else hears? That is tinnitus.tinnitus1

Definition:

Tinnitus – from the Latin word tinnītus meaning “ringing” is the perception of sound within the human ear (ringing of the ears) when no actual sound is present. Despite the origin of the name, “ringing” is only one of many sounds the person may perceive.

The sounds range from ringing, whistling, clicking or hissing, loud or soft, intermittent or incessant. Although most people find this mildly annoying and learn to deal with it, about 1-2% of people find it to be a significant problem.

What is the underlying cause to this subjective phenomenon? The most common cause is noise-induced hearing loss.  Other causes include: neurological damage (multiple sclerosis), ear infections, oxidative stress, emotional stress, foreign objects in the ear, nasal allergies that prevent (or induce) fluid drain, wax build-up, and exposure to loud sounds.

Luckily there are some natural remedies that can help reduce these situations.  Lets take a look at a few below.

Sesame seeds

Some Chinese herbalists recommend the use of sesame seeds for treating tinnitus. You could add these seeds to the foods you consume or use tahini, the bread spread made from sesame seeds.

Ginkgo biloba

Ginkgo biloba has been shown in many studies to be helpful for many health ailments related to aging, including memory loss, poor circulation and tinnitus.

As ginkgo improves blood circulation, it could help with cases of ringing in the ears which are associated with lack of circulation to the inner ear.

B vitamins

Tinnitus could be linked to a deficiency in B vitamins, and some people have found relief from the ringing by taking a B complex supplement.

Zinc

Tinnitus is also linked to a deficiency in zinc. Zinc supplementation could thus be useful, as could the consumption of zinc-rich foods such as pumpkin seeds, Brazil nuts, pecans and oysters.

Cultures around the world have used essential oils for centuries to cure and treat various illnesses and conditions long before modern medicines were even thought of.  The oil known as tea tree originates from the Melaleuca alternifolia tree which is native to Australia.  The Aborigines have used this oil for hundreds of years to treat conditions ranging from common coughs to serious skin conditions.Teaoil

Tea tree oil is known as a “must-have” health product for its wide range of medicinal purposes and sanitary qualities.  Being antimicrobial, antifungal and antibacterial, tea tree is a great natural health product.

Mouth wash

Tea Tree is a very potent natural antibacterial source.  As you can tell by it being added to many mouth care products. It is able to kill just about any bacteria living in your mouth.  Just by adding few drops of tea tree oil to a glass of purified water you can create a simple but effective mouth wash.

Skin care

Tea tree being antimicrobial, antifungal and antibacterial makes it a great natural skin care product.  It treats a wide array of skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis, eczema, athlete’s foot, insect bites, cuts, rashes, or any other skin issue.  By applying the oil on the affected area using a cotton bud/ball and allowing it to absorb for a few hours or ideally overnight, can be an effective way to treat and cure your conditions.  The oil can also be diluted down with purified water if by itself is too potent for your skin.

All around disinfectant

Instead of using those chemical induced household cleaners that have ingredients that you can’t even pronounce or potentially harmful to your children, use a couple teaspoons of tea tree oil and 2 cups of purified water in a spray bottle and voila (French, “here it is” lol), you have an all around cleaner.  Use it from your kitchen to the bathroom without ingesting or absorbing the harmful chemicals into your body.

Natural Ways to Fight Off Heartburn

Heartburn is a common condition of acid reflux, in fact over 60 million Americans alone have complained about having symptoms of heartburn each week.  This happens when stomach acid is mixed partially with digested foods or liquids.  In turn, causing irritation in the throat or esophagus.  Surprisingly, heartburn has nothing to do with the actual heart of a person.hb2

Although there are medicines that can help fight the syptoms causeed by heartburn, there are many natural ways that can work just as well.  Lets take a look at a few options.

Chewing gum

WHile chewing gum your body produces more saliva then normal.  The alkali in your saliva will help neutalize the acids in foods that trigger heartburn.  This will in turn prevent those unwanted symptoms of heartburn.

A glass of water

Drnking water will increase the pH level in your body.  A recent Greek study have shown patients that drink a glass of water during cases of heartburn have had much quicker relief then without.

Deep breathing

Although deep breathing has always been a way to relieve stress, it is am effective way to help combat heartburn.  While breathing in deep breaths, you have a less chance of swalloing air.  It can help strengthen muscles in the lower esophagus which will also prevent more frequent occurences of acid reflux.

Change up your diet

By avoiding food and beverages that are known to trigger heartburn is an effective way to stop the symptoms before they start.  Some of the more common foods and drinks can include but are not limited to:  meat, coffee, chocolate, dairy products, acidic foods, spicy foods and soft drinks.

Fatty foods though have been seen to have negative effects and can increase the likelihood of heartburn.
Making simple changes in daily lifestyle, such as eating, sleeping and breathing hbits, can help prevent the occurrence of heartburn.

Eat more FRESH Veggies.

Drink peppermint or ginger teas. They are great for soothing that bloated belly.

 

DON’T DO IT –

Chew gum, it creates acid and will cause stomach cramps and bloating.

Steer clear of antacids they only create more heartburn, cramps and bloating.

Stay away from hot fatty fried foods because they take longer to digest and they just aren’t good for you either.

Say no to Salt and MSG. They are hidden in processed foods, breads. ready to go meals and restaurant food.

Try some of these steps or all of them and you will notice an incredible difference.

 

Help Dealing with a Case of Hives

Recently, my two year old broke out in a startling case of hives. They came out of nowhere and rapidly spread across her face and body; burning and making her skin itch. Though alarming and concerning, I assumed given my own allergies, and her recent exposure to an exotic Persian cat, that she was having an allergic reaction to the cat. My husband and I watched her closely, but decided to take her to the doctor to confirm she would be alright.

The doctors’ office was frustrating as the Dr. spent very little time listening to me, or evaluating my child. He then told me that she was not having an allergic reaction, but that she had strep throat and that it was relatively common for children to break out into a rash with strep throat. A moment after he “diagnosed” her, he left, ordered the strep culture, and left me, more than a little confused. My daughter did not have a fever, nor had she complained of a sore throat.

 

At length, the doctor came back to tell me that the strep culture came back negative and proceeded to tell me that she had a viral infection instead. I reasserted that she did not exhibit any symptoms of an illness, and still had no fever. He insisted again that she had a viral illness, and informed me that the hives could last up to 6 weeks, and that if they had not resolved in 2 months, then I should come back. I about fell out of my chair, 6 weeks?? Not better in 2 months?? I stared in disbelief as the doctor nonchalantly left the room, and I decided that there must be a better solution. I promptly went home, cleaned car seats and clothes to get rid of any pet dander, and called my good friend Fawn Christopher. She recommended Kid-e-Soothe to calm my toddler’s immune system.

 

We immediately gave her the Kid-e-Soothe and to my great relief, the hives went away; quickly, safely, and without any harmful side effects. I did not have to worry if she weighed enough to give her Bendadryl, Zyrtec, or any other medicine the doctor had suggested, nor did I have to worry about her becoming drowsy as a result. I did not have to wrestle her and pin her down to give her the medicine, for the Kid-e-Soothe was easy on her palette as well as her stomach. But my biggest comfort was that I did not have to worry about having my toddler covered with hives for 6-8 weeks.

 

After the hives had dissipated and I conducted some studious research, I have discovered that it is possible to develop a case of hives with the onset of a viral infection, but as of yet, I am unconvinced that this was the case with my daughter. Short of going back to visit the exotic cat there is no way to show who was correct. But for me, it is mostly irrelevant. I have found a product (and subsequently a whole line of products) that I can feel safe in giving my child when she is ill. I have found a solution that I can feel good about. And with the proper education and information, I can take these herbs and take care of my family.
